Our daughter’s voice bubbled with excitement as she returned from kindergarten. My husband and I shared a glance filled with both joy and a touch of embarrassment. Living in the southern heat, where there are only two seasons—hot and hotter—meant that witnessing our daughter’s delight in discovering the natural world was particularly special. As northern natives, this was something we had grown up with. It was in that moment that we decided to plan an escape to the North Georgia mountains, where our children could experience the full glory of autumn: cool mornings, the warmth of afternoon sun during hikes, vibrant colors, the scent of dusty dirt trails, and the taste of crisp apples picked high from orchard trees. And of course, the soothing symphony of nature's sounds.

Noah and Ava embraced every aspect of that trip, inspiring us to make mountain visits a regular part of our lives.
